Herald Sun Tour 2018

Postby dmwill » Mon Dec 04, 2017 6:10 pm

Does anyone know if it's happening for 2018?

A few websites (GTR Events and Velowire) indicate it's on from 31st Jan - 4th Feb, but there doesn't appear to be anything official.

Event website still has 2017 stuff and the official Facebook page is outdated.

Been searching myself and found nothing firm.
Heard rumours it was coming back to Arthurs Seat this year and keen to go and watch, in my back yard so to speak

Since the chairlift was opened I don’t think we’ll see another stage (AT) Arthur’s Seat :(

The race is on, GTR are working on it. I'll be there in my usual commissaire driver capacity.

Here's a bit more info:

Route uses roads which often form part of the Tour of Gippsland, which this year was relegated to a crit series.

Thanks....that looks better. Thought the chairlift op would have put a stop to it. Gonna have to look into getting on it at exactly the right time

Edit...Say What? Which is correct? Alex or Tims post?

Thanks Bruce. That's cool, live near enough to Kinglake half the time, near enough to Arthurs the other half, got it covered

Just heard today that Mobius are getting an invite.
Unfortunately with the dates being as they are I am unlikely to be able to get time off work to go which is a massive bummer

That's awesome for them. :)

Wouldn't mind going down there if I can get the time off.

Yep. Been told the same thing. Bit of a shame because it was so good for tv, which the final stage was the only one getting good coverage.

I wish they would do better maps. The lake mountain stage is friggen insane, by my guesstimates they are going up to Highlands from Seymour, back towards Ruffy and down to Yarck (these are epic roads for riding, no cars, awesome scenery), then to Alexandra, the back way to Eildon up to Skyline rd, then onto Taggerty and finishing with a 20k climb up Lake Mountain. That is some serious elavation gain for a 218k stage.

Yeah, when I looked again I was thinking, haven't I been there before?

Thinking back to last year, I know that at Tour of Tassie when I spoke with John Trevorrow the final route for the JHST hadn't been settled at that time, mainly due to the Arthur's Seat issues but he said they had an alternative ready to go. But it was quite a while before the route was actually made public.

Last year I was driving Chief Comm so got a pretty good look at the racing, with Froome & Co up close and personal.
