Shimano Di2 D-Fly Wireless Unit EWW01

Postby rodneycc » Wed Jun 10, 2015 5:17 pm

I'm interested in one of these wireless units for my Di2 to monitor my gear/cog selection and battery life through my new Garmin and wonder if anyone has got one and what are their thoughts on it?

I got it more so to keep an eye on battery charge as the Green Light/ Red light thing is no help unless you remember what colour and how many flashes mean what. As far as gear selection goes for me, it was "cute" for about 5 mins and then never looked at it again. Having said that I am more interested in Cadence/ Heart Rate/ Power/ elevation%

I bought mine primarily for the battery levels.

That said, I still look at what gear I'm in on the Garmin 510, I find it handy.

I use mine for checking gears at stops, it feels safer keeping your head up in traffic. Very easy to install.

Thanks guys thats great info. Think I might get one then. Are the gear changes displayed instantly or is there a bit of a lag time. I like the idea of a gear display because I never really quite know what exact gear I'm in towards the middle of the cassette and it might help me choose better ( was a lot easier when you only had 5 gears!). My eye sight isn't the greatest either.

Thanks again.

I bought mine specifically for the gear indicator -- oh how we laughed all those years ago when shimano introduced gear indicators on the old XT shifters in '94... you can just look at the cassette, we said... well I missed them so much, all my bikes have indiators these days, except my road bike. I had enough issues with 10 speed, not know what gear i was in...11 speed... love my D-fly.
Although the batter indicator did weird me out for a while...till I figured out it went on 10% increments.

The gear shifts are immediate. Even when going through 5 or so gears.

Great for riding in the dark. No more going by feel to figure out which gear you're in.
