Speedplay Zero Cleats (non-aero)

Anyone know what's happened to the classic zero cleats?

All the major sites seem to be selling Zero Aeros which in my view are absolutely rubbish as the walking plastic bit is softer than chewing gum and deforms within a few months.

The few sites that stock the Zeros are either out of stock or really expensive

Do you mean the walkable ones with the yellow surround? Without actually offering a solution, can this bit just be ripped off before even using them to avoid it being chopped up and getting in the way of pedal engagement?

Thanks Jim,

Yes the aero walkables are the yellow dimpled ones. It can be ripped off but that defeats the purpose of having a plastic covering which provides grip and protects the cleat from premature wear. Tried those once and the yellow plastic bit deformed like bluetack after a few months :?

The Speedplay Zero cleats have aftermarket "keep on covers" which lasts forever and can be cheaply replaced. Trouble is I dont think anyone stocks them anymore.

I only use my Speedplays when I'm roadie-ing, so I'm not really walking on them often (just putting a foot down at lights or hiking the Harbour Bridge steps occasionally 8)) Seems to be a few Keep-on available on ebay, but they're probably not OEM and of questionable life span.

The 3rd part covers are still around - they're called "Keep on Kovers" (covers with a k). E.g.

Me too! And the aero ones disintegrated after a few months

Hmm, yes, they all seem to have the yellow covers. Might be between a rock and a hard place. Unless someone has a lightly used set on one of the FB markets?

yeah thats annoying, maybe someone will release a aftermarket cover for the new version too. I just started using the cheap/ebay keep on covers and definitely better when walking around even though i don't walk around much.

personally I have seen a few of those yellow covers around on the ground, so they must fall off.
