Cheers Duck!

Will look at the small-small option next time I size the chain. But is the issue then that the big-big may not have enough chain ?

For me, I would be more like to inadvertently go big-big rather than small-small.

Anyway, onto todays dilemma :? :x

After thinking I managed to snaffle a great price on aDT G1800 wheelset to be used for gravel, only realised too late (already shipped) that I ordered the 27.5” version, not the 700C version that I have recently purchased tyres for…….

DOH !!!

Not a major issue in the end, but something I didn’t need as then need to get the relevant matching stuff.

That’s what you get when ordering stuff late at night on a phone !?!

Anyone after some 38mm Gravelking Semi slick Plus TLC tyres ….

I did small/small on my gravelly. It will still run 48-36 if you want to.

Bloody AusPost is really annoying me atm !!

I’ve got three separate parcels in Aus (MTB pedals from Taiwan, wheelset & tyres from Bike24 and tyres from R2 Bike) that seem to be taking forever to get anywhere and really slow updates from the AP system.

The Pedals were on their way from Sydney to Adelaide on Friday 9:45am and still no update ….

And the weather, house build stuff and work is keeping me off the bike atm.

[sigh] The Belair pothole curse has struck again. Near the bottom of Laffers Road, saw a small but deep pothole at the bottom of a steep descent and couldn't swerve in time (unlit road and 50km/hr) and BAM

Another dead rear rim ....

Picture of each side.

Managed to limp to work with multiple CO2 topups (tyre is tubeless)

Yes that is the main reason I run higher pressures on my gravel tyres than some online pressure guides recommend. Wheel are expensive so that I don't see them as a consumable.
Hope you can get it repaired/replaced soon Michael :(

Quick session in the shed and some wheel swaps last night.

The cheap set of R470’s I bought are now on the ICAN with some Continental Urban 35’s.

Llewellyn now has the 52mm Konax Pro back on.

End plan will be to cannibalise the front rim from the Hunt wheelset and rebuild as a rear for a windy day set for the Llewellyn. But that’ll take a few weeks.

@nd update : Order submitted 8)

2 x D21-38's (24H) and 1 x D21-22 (32H) ordered. Now to wait .....
Well, finally some progress on the ICAN rear wheel. The rims got delivered a few weeks ago, but busy with work, house stuff and riding, so finally managed some time yesterday arvo to dismantle the FUBAR'd rear wheel, clean the hub and spokes, and start reassembling into the new Carbonal D21-22 rim.

The pre-assembly involved two critical checks - 32 holes and ERD being the same .....

2 outta 2 ! 8)

A quick check of the Muson's wheel building guide, and lacing was initiated !

Lacing went fine and the next step is now to tension and true ! (might be a week or two to get done !)

One thing that surprised me, was that the damaged rim was still pretty strong despite the size of the crack. Will have a closer look and cut it up a bit, but pleasantly surprised !

Spent a couple of hours in the shed last night.

Mounted the Challenge Bianca Pro tyres onto the recently purchased G1800 wheelset (bargain from Farceberk marketplace) and the TLR one was a sod to get on, but wasn't as hard as the other wheelset. They are now ready for the new 11-36 cassette on it's way and for the gravel rides around Mintaro at the end of October !

I then also finished truing/tensioning the repaired rear wheel with the Carbonal replacement rim (Thanks Duck! for the recommendation of Carbonal !) and then installed the rim tape and swapped over the 35mm GP Urban tyres onto them from the R470 rims. Mounted them on the bike and didn't even need to adjust the caliper alignment. SWEET.

The R470 rims will now be sold, as they are surplus to requirements.

Well the gravel bike is now wearing it's gravel boots and ready for a weekend of dirt roads in Mintaro.

The wheelset is DT Swiss G1800, tyres are still the Challenge Bianca Pro in 40mm, and now wearing an 11-36 cassette (giving a 32-36 low gear) and have a new chain fitted- one of the e-bike chains I got from MTB direct a while ago at a bargain price :D

Riding the combo to work over the next couple of days to make sure all is well and adjusted right prior to hitting the dirt.

Hopefully the wind stays away this weekend, weather is good so will hopefully have some shots to share next week

So some major spending (completely unnecessary of course), but have finally completed the purchases to convert the ICAN away from the Praxis 'proprietary' BB's.

Solved that by getting a new GRX810 crankset (farceberk) for $200, GRX FD from Fleabay and then a few weeks ago got a GRX RD as still using a road Ultegra long cage. The BB was snaffled from Pushys with the SHIM20 discount - had to settle for the Ultegra, as the DA one was sold out :( , but still, at $32.99 - 20% and shipped free (bought a couple of rotors as well).

That change will probably come over the Xmas break, so will flog off the Praxis crankset and the near new rings for whatever I can get for it.

Then the bike will be complete ....

Thanks for the detailed write up Michael!

I’ve got the same frame and am now in the process of building it up. I’ve got some Qs about the gear cable routing. Would be great if you could help please. 🙏

How far do you run the mechanical gear cable outers inside the frame?

I see you ran them from the BB plastic gear guide to the RD. So did you run inner cables from when the outers go into the frame to the BB for both RD and FD?

Thanks in advance!

The outers don't go in the frame, they stop at the cable entry doodads and then run the inners from there.

Yep.

Enjoy and post some pics and details of your build in a thread.

Cheers
