Touring Kangaroo Island on e-bikes.

Postby Konatourer » Sun Dec 16, 2018 8:55 pm

Recently my friend and I did a week long tour of Kangaroo Island, South Australia, on our e-bikes. They were a Cube Reaction Pro hardtail with a Bosch Performance CX motor and a 500wh battery and a Specialised Levo dual suspension with a 460wh battery and Brose motor. Both bikes performed faultlessly. We rode between 50-60 kilometres per day and stayed at cabins or AirBandB. In total we covered 350 km over a wide variety of road surfaces and countryside. We recharged overnight and had 20-40% of our charge left at the end of the day. As we are both on the high side of sixty years, the e-bikes really worked for us. https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipM ... 13Q3XhBnPT

Some touring purists may not like it but the e bike certainly permits those who are losing strength and fitness due to advancing age to continue touring.

Who cares what the "purists" think.
Getting out and about is far more important than anyone's 2 cent opinion.

I'll be touring on my e-bike next year.

Can't see the pics but a friend recently attended a BikeSA ride on Kangaroo Island and spoke very highly of the experience.

The link is working for me. It goes to a Google Images album. https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipM ... 13Q3XhBnPT

Try that.

I rode the Bike SA tour on KI five years ago and my friend wanted to go this year but they were booked out. When he asked about taking an e-bike they said that there were no problems. E-bikes do not make it a piece of cake. The big hills still ask a bit of you, just not as much. I'd rather be on an adventure than sitting at home! Thanks for the comments. I have no doubt that we will see a lot more e-bike touring.
