Yeah hopefully soon i'll be able to build the bike, still looking for a cheap road bike that i can part out, instead of buying components in seperate.

Boy I've done some ks on this bike, a Gemini Club Ultegra (Reynolds 531). A long time ago I upgraded it to RX 100 8 speed. I trained on it and raced on it (if you call making up the numbers at the back racing). One morning while out training i was run off the road and into a culvert. Forks gone and top tube bent. I took it to Kerry Hopkins (in his old shop near the Liverpool Station around 1997/98) and he put a new 531 tube in and I had it repainted and I bought a set of state of the art Kenisis alloy forks. I contacted Gemini Bicycles and although they had long finished with their own brand of bikes by then they found a set of correct decals and sent them to me free of charge. Once again I rode the wheels off it.

About 5 years ago my young nephew wanted to start riding so I gave him the bike, he was bitten by the bug and before too long he was on carbon. These days anything not 11 speed is old school to him. Anyway the bike sat under the house at my sister's place in Brisbane until I brought it back to Sydney this week. I stripped it down and rebuilt it with a full Ultegra 9 speed group I had. So tomorrow we get to know each other again, I can't wait.

Same paint job as QV's red and black bike but obviously blue and black. Not sure who the painter would have been but I am sure it was not Kerry.

I purchase my first new bike in 1981.A BLOM made by Paul Blom. I still have the frame handle bars and head stem. The rest was either donated to other bikes or in the case of the seat post and cranks (both Galli) broke, the seat post when I was riding in the Muswellbrook to Tamworth and the crank snapped about 75mm from the pedal about two years later. I'm currently putting it back on the road with parts from a donor bike. I will be using this as my daily ride. The second bike was also a Blom purchased in 1982 this time a track bike again I only have the frame as other parts were used on other bikes

Nice story lurlew. It must have been quite exciting to purchase your new Blom in 1981. It's also very nice to read that you kept it and getting it back on the road. Are you going to get your track Blom up and running too?

Hi All,

Awesome forum with heaps of knowledge and information!

Here's my unknown Steely Dung frameset that I was given. It was originally 105 6speed. It had no wheels, shifters, pedals and only 1/2 crankset. Only identifying feature was a torn Tange sticker on seat tube. I re-used as much of the original 105 gear as I could and was donated modern 105 gear 10speed (circa 5600?) from a mate (toasted his bike entering underground carpark). Had the wheels at home and picked up the rest of the bits off Ebay and my LBS. Serial # M7J10945 and weight of frameset came in at under 2.5kg (frame). Have a more detailed post in Retro Biking under "It's nothing special....."

I don't think it's anything special but I love riding it! It cost me next to nothing to build. Hope you like it. Would be great if someone could identify it (I'll get some stickers made).

Cheers,
Matt

Thank you seddo, most of these vintage bikes need to be seen in person in order to fully appreciate them as photos don't usually do them justice.

So - hopefully you can see a pic of my first ever rebuild! I've obviously had it resprayed, but ive kept most of original components (don't think the rear wheel is original...) - just stripped it all down and cleaned them up as best as i can. The person who was about to through this out had fitted a Giant MTB seat and lost all the cable stops, so ran the cables full encased, and taped them to the frame!

Was going to get a new headset - but apparently Raleigh Used a different pitch thread, and i cant get a headset that fits!

JUst need to get the saddle broken in!

EDIT - HERE IS MY BEFORE.....

Cheers!

Yeah, its a Raleigh. I've taken a bit of artistic lisence with the decals... It was Super Record, but I've rebadged it as a SuperCourse TT. I'm not sure if that's punishable by death or not, but I couldn't get nice decals for the Record! I got he paint matched to the original. Really enjoyed pulling it apart and seeing how it all works!
