Yes I was sort of surprised at that as he has started to show form.Is he down to do the Vuelta?.
The Giro seems to be the best warm-up for the worlds...pretty hard to compete with the guys coming off the Vuelta and still holding great form for a few weeks.

With some recent wins by Aussies, it will be interesting to see what the team announced on Tuesday.

Recent stage wins by McEwen ( :( ), Goss & Bobridge makes it look like the Aussies are on form !!!

Any news of SBS coverage ? Will the men's RR be live ?

Interesting, and no Haussler (which is not surprising given comeback from injury).

So I wonder who the key rider(s) will be ?

Team Katusha rider Robbie McEwen says he has worked towards the World Championships
since riding Tour de France in July. McEwen is now 38 years old,
and though his career may soon end, he is still a great sprinter.
Why no McEwen :?:

Would seem he (Robbie McEwen) is coming up trumps in the Benelux.

Experience is what will count in this World Championship 2010,
would think Cadel Evans would have wanted him there. "Selectors"

From your SBS...
Renshaw's non-selection suggests he may not be capable of surviving
the hilly circuits on the back-end of the course around Geelong
Think Cadel Evans is the man... for this coarse. (but will he have the team?) 8)
Cheers,
BrentonO

If Goss stays upright through Spain then he would have to come into the worlds with some decent form eh? He seems to be at a pretty good level at the moment.

Also the youngest guys on the squad are from Tas! I love it :D

I might have to get a little toy devil to hang off my bars to fly the flag while im over there. Maybe it can fight Chadwick's poodle

Baden Cooke is a very very lucky man. Hasn't done much this year, hasn't done all that much since 03 :? . If it was Cooke for McEwen then Robbie has been hard done by imho.

I thought we got allocated 10 riders in the road race as we have the reigning world champ ie. 9 riders + automatic entry for Cadel to defend his jersey? :?

Edit: just read the UCI rules and this doesn't apply to the elite men's road race :(. Stupid cyclingnews for sayings it was a week or so ago!

" 3,076m of vertical gain throughout the race - ridden in the last 180km of the race"

That is a lot of pinch climbs!.

+1
"I'm absolutely gutted and really, really disappointed," McEwen told The Australian newspaper.
"The selectors felt that the road course between Melbourne and Geelong (in Victoria) was just too tough for me but I don't agree.
I've ridden over it and believe I could have been managed it and been competitive.
Like everyone else I'm just shocked that I've been axed.
I truly believe I've done enough here at the Eneco (Tour) to have warranted a start."
Definately would have been wise to have a second iron in the fire.

The World Road Championship, isn't just a team race event, it's also a "best man on the day" event. :?:

Does that make his selection for the Worlds void, and someone else steps in, or ....

Philippe Gilbert looked very focused on the sea side of Marbella
at the start of stage 3 of the 2010 Vuelta a Espana.
The 28 year old won in Malaga in the same way he claimed the Amstel Gold Race in April.
"This one was a similar climb as the Cauberg", he analysed. Gilbert is a happy man.
But he has set his sight on another event as well.
"I came to the Vuelta for gearing up for the world championship
and with the ambition of winning a stage", he said. "The second goal is already reached."
Gilbert doesn't hide his ambitions to become the world champion at the
2010 Road Cycling World Championships in Geelong, Australia, on October 3rd.
"The toughness of the course has been underestimated by many favourites", he noted.

Cadel doing some interesting work for the World's,
Night of Hannover Continental Derny Race, he was second to Danilo Hondo (00:23:43)
and Alessandro Petacchi was 5th.
Seems like more speed work seems to be the order of the day.
Hope this freshens him up, and he comes in well.
Go Aussie, go Cadel Evans, retain "The" Jersey. :)
Cheers,
