How hard is it to buy a 12-27 6600 cassette on line?
Postby tuco » Fri Jul 25, 2008 11:38 am
I have up to a 23 but I'm after a 27 for the hills and they may as well not exist. I've even tried ProBikeKit who seem to be out of stock of everything I'm after.
I've tried numerous online sites but there's nothing.
I've been trying to avoid the lbs because it'll be twice the price and they'll have to order one anyway. They wont go bust without my purchase, I've already given them over $4,500 this year.

Where did you actually look? PBK is down for maintenance at the moment. I assume they also have them.

Anyway, the big problem if PBK aren't holding is postage and the temptation to buy up things you don't really need to justify postage. You can log on to various sites and get to the checkout stage, compare the final prices and bail on all but the cheapest price. Still better than the LBS probably.
As an asside. If you feeling pathetic about going the 27, I went the 29.

Another thing someone put to me this morning was that he bought a compact crank set and swaps them depending on the ride he's doing. This requires a newer 'one FD does all' front derailleur, which you probably have since your bike is new. You'll also do well to get a second chain with joiner to accomodate the compact front.
It's too late for me, the 29 is in transit. I hope. I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

Not any more according to a bloke I rode with this morning. Shimano and Campag now have a one FD for both.swapping the cranksets will also require you to adjust the position of the FD, and that would mean setting up your cable tension for proper shifting as well.

Yep, they are now! I got the email. Too late though. I went through Ribble. If they're not going to keep stock levels up then it's their loss.Aushiker wrote:PBK now have stock of the 10 speed 12-27 (AT) 52.81.tuco wrote:Very!

The larger the number (25, 27 etc) will make it easier, but the gapps are bigger ebtewen the gears.Rubicon wrote:Ok - Im getting confused.
currently have a 11-25 cog.
Whats the next set up one would buy if you want to climb even easier?
Would love any advice.
Next step up from a 12-25 will be a 12-27 in Shimano, 11-28 in SRAM or the Campag raod ones even go to a 12-29 (me thinks).
Any higher and you start getting into MTB style territory.
Either that or compact cranks.
