SCOTT'S SPIN: Hairy Decision
It could be the toughest choice a roadie ever faces.
Campy versus Shimano? Nope. Double chainrings versus triple? Uh-uh. EPO versus steroids? Nah. (That last one's probably not an either/or question anyway.)
No, the hardest decision -- for guys, and for some women -- is whether to shave your legs. Leg-shaving is cycling's version of a fraternity initiation. For some people, it's a rite of passage that marks you as part of a special group of kindred spirits -- like running across campus in the snow while wearing nothing but underwear on your head. Others see shaving as pointless, painful, even embarrassing -- like running across campus in the snow while wearing nothing but underwear on your head. Regardless, it's not something to take lightly.
Here are some pros and cons to help you make this hairy decision:
Pro: Shaved legs intimidate your riding buddies and impress non-cycling friends without you actually having to ride hard.
Con: Unshaved legs may cause your snobby cycling partners to underestimate your abilities, adding the element of surprise to your vicious attack.
Con: You barely have time to brush your teeth and comb your hair. Why add another hygiene-oriented task? Especially one involving such large body parts.
Pro: Oh, please. You're in the shower. Lather up your legs with some bar soap. Take a few strokes with your razor. Done. Now watch the blood swirl down the drain, Psycho-style.
Pro: Shaved legs make massages more enjoyable and less messy.
Con: Um, I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't want a massage.
Con: With shaved legs, you could look silly in your swimsuit at the beach.
Pro: No one at the beach will notice your shaved legs because they will be too busy laughing at your ridiculous tan lines.

Nah, with real cyclist pins, the only looks you will get at the beach is admiration or jellousy (and thats the girls being jellous of boy legs).LuckyPierre wrote:

I agree with Mike. If there is one thing cyclists are known for, its having great legs.

Hmmm, spend time depilating or ride?
Spend time depilating or get the bike tools out?
Spend time depilating or have a type here?
Life's too short to go smooth

It definitely works for looped criterium circuits. It's like what Lt-Rt differential tyre pressures do for Nascar racing.tuco wrote:If you shaved one leg and went natural on the other would the hairodynamics make you ride around in circles?

Ahhh, but they have banked ovals - then again, Sprintcars have different sized tyres as well........sogood wrote:It definitely works for looped criterium circuits.
