Specialized has laid off 7% of its workforce as the company reassess its economic position in the wake of COVID-19's impact on the world cycling market.

Mike Sinyard, the company's founder, said Thursday that 46 people were let go with the majority coming from its European operations.

France, Spain and Italy have shut down almost all outdoor activity including cycling, while Germany, just this week, began slowly reopening some businesses, Sinyard said in an interview. Specialized receives a significant amount of its revenue from European sales.

On the flip side though, the same publication recently ran an interviwe with Trek's boss, which although understandably was somewhat Trek biased was still reasonably pragmatic, who indicated that this could, and should be a significant boom time for the bike industry as a whole, and we're certainly seeing indications of that here.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Specialized are also a bit special...(but so are Trek)... a lot of brands will still be observing and the fast ones moving to make the most of the opportunity for a boom entry level bikes.

When people are lining up outside of bike stores to buy bikes, the faster brands can move to adapt, the healthier they will be in guiding through this pandemic.

They'd have to be fast. Faster than a speeding bullet tbh. The window of opportunity to cash in on this is closing already.
