Waist 71.5 cm

The sudden weight loss is just a case of under-eating the previous day. I got some bad news that my current diet was causing harm to my liver. So I decided to eat most of the remaining veg I'd already bought raw. Not very appetizinig, especially the potato. Consequently I under ate. In a week I should have a totally restructured diet to help heal my liver. So I'll see how that affects my weight and waist.

I'm a bit of a passenger at the moment. I wasn't sure if I was going to gain or lose weight this week. Still working out some details of my new diet structure, which is similar to Kempner's Rice Diet.

This week was unusual as I ate some rockmelon which strangely upset my lower gut and made it more difficult for me to eat as much as usual.

I went to a GP on Thursday for my medical assessment for work. They weighed me at 60.0 with boots on and so recorded 59 kg without boots. The boots actually weigh 1.2 kg. So as the GP weighs, 59 kg is a BMI of 19.9. Without getting into details, those who want to do certain aspects of outdoor work at my employment need to pass a medical/physical to do so. Part of that is having a BMI under 30 IIRC.

Expected weight gain as I've given up on being underweight (for a man, which is considered to be a BMI < 19.5) in case I get Covid. I'll probably gain more weight and waist size over the coming weeks to months as we get closer to winter. I hope to gain some of that weight as muscle. But at 54 y.o., I don't expect much.

By posting this here I'm owning up to my own challenge which is to simply feel better 24/7 than I was circa Dec 2021.
I suffered horrendously with a bout of viral meningitis in October 2011 which put me out of action for 3 months and took another 3 months after that to get back somewhere close to where I was at prior to hospitalisation. Alas I have permanent complications from this, mainly neurological / vestibular but also issues with my cervical spine due to my spinal cord being partly damaged from acute swelling / spinal dislocation during that meningitis bout.
My doctor said my BMI was acceptable but I knew from my sz 34 work jeans that I was expanding - so I took it upon myself to drop some weight.
My initial goal was to just shift a little weight and after 7 weeks the goal is the same.
I used to eat 2 x chunks of Toblerone chocolate after dinner - this happened 99% of the time for a decade. The only thing I have done is cut out the Toblerone or anything else after dinner. My diet, meal times, serving sizes, exercise and work schedule are all the same as before. I just stopped eating after dinner.
7 weeks ago I weighed 83kg
I waited 4 weeks before re-weighing as I did not want to be splitting kg into small fractions. I also went to NZ to visit a friend and the diet was partially blown in that week too.......
3 weeks ago I weighed 81kg
2 weeks ago I weighed 80kg
This week I weighed in at 79kg.
So I have a result and it's quite clear. Good for me and now I can more or less ignore the sugar cravings after dinner so my plan is to simply keep this up and see what gives /how long the weight loss lasts.
After 7 weeks I do feel better and maybe (subjectively) have a little more flexibility in the waist area - feel less bloated etc.
I'll post again in a month.

That's a really rough time - but you are dropping the weight well.open roader wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 4:25 pmSo I have a result and it's quite clear. Left this thread at 79kg down from the starting point of 83kg.
Dropped to 77kg for 3 consecutive weeks and thought I'd hit a plateau but just this last week now down to 76kg.
I'm feeling better for the weight loss and better still the after dinner chocolate cravings are now gone for good. I may fluctuate a kilo up or down some weeks but if that's where the experiment ends then I'm more than pleased with the result.

WHtR: .53
BMI: 22.6 (181cm 74kg)
I'm very aware that I'm not a common body shape and the BMI is for someone with a whole lot more muscle mass. I've been slim before as a young adult in the low-60kgs and I'm expecting to get back around there by the time the paunch is gone.

A lot of people would be happy with a WHtR of 0.53 as a finishing point. But from your description of your body type, you're probably going to be more content with 0.42 or lower.
BMI was designed as a measurement for the study of populations rather than individuals. I remember working out from studies on it that the middle of the ideal health range for a man is 21.75 IIRC.
