That's where I was sitting too. Didn't even get out of the car. Another 5 minutes and I would probably have tried!

In the national park will be particularly bad, due to algae and debris. The downhill from Water Fall will be chaotic, a huge risk for the organiser if they decide to push ahead.
I wonder if there will be a deferred date. Fair enough if they say costs in organising are already incurred, but then they have also taken the donations.

Prediction: November 2024. Nothing will happen prior, it's too big of a logistics exercise with closures and approvals and the like.

Hmm was thinking perhaps an Autumn/May date myself, when I was retrieving my cable ties from last years bib I noticed the printed date was 1 May 2022, after being postponed from 2021, though seems like November is the more traditional date.
Well seems like another 13mm rain since 9am here, though less than a mm at Waterfall, Otford and Wollongong by 12pm.

Anyone who turned up looking forward to a ride is seriously hard

iirc, May 2022 was rescheduled from Nov 2021 due to Omicron and due to rain it got postponed until the traditional Nov 2022 date. I say they'll just skip to Nov 2024 this time.

If it had been only a little lighter I'd have gone. I had 3 others in a loose group who were on a train from the north shore when the message came in. They got off at Redfern and rode home! There's something about being out in those conditions. I don't mind being cold but usually hate being wet, except in rare circumstances.find_bruce wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 5:41 pmAnyone who turned up looking forward to a ride is seriously hard
I'll do an equivalent distance ride this week/weekend to make myself feel better about taking a couple of donations.

Ah well there you go, could do with a refund right now but knowing how short their goal was might donate instead, at least it's a small tax break later.
The bigger unanswered question is who ate all the muffins

The Gong Ride must be one of the most weather affected bicycle events out there.
I have done it many times, the first time with a big southerly buster heading up the coast. Since then, I have encountered 80kmh westerly winds, and another time Waterfall was blanketed by fog. On a fine day, it is the best ride ever.

I'd actually enjoy that, was thinking the other day it would've been nice to ride through the National Park after some rain, get that fresh, natural ozone scent that follows a storm, though talk of debris on the route explains why they unfortunately cancelled...

There was an event update, you have the option to donate the registration fee, or request a refund.
Didn't receive any emails about it, was just looking for updates and saw that.
