Shimano ST-EF505-8R available in Australia

Evening.

I've been training for the Tour de Brisbane for months now, had an issue with my brakes and took the bike for a service and to get the brakes dealt with.
During that process, the cassette and chain were also swapped, but whatever damage those components had was apparently holding the ability to change gears together, as such, I am no longer able to shift gears.

It's 11 days until the ride I've spent months training for, and I can't find this part available in stock wherever I have looked in Australia.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can find this part;

If it's in Brisbane and I can go grab it and get it installed I can finish my training, but worst case if I can get it from elsewhere in Australia at least I'll be able to actually ride the Tour de Brisbane, not wasting months of training.

99 Bikes can't get it, Pushys is out of stock, Bike Bug is out of stock, the 3/4 other places I saw listing it are also out of stock.

I'm not a mechanic, nor do I know anything. I just ride. Mechanic says the part is required I don't know better.

That's certainly the plan going forward, however at this moment I have 10 days to get it sorted so I don't have time to shop around.

Agree. Not to mention a bike mechanic changing drivetrain parts and then handing bike back to customer unable to change gears - really strange.

OP - did the same mechanic tell you that it is a dodgy shifter (or are you making an assumption), and did he check the cable and/or adjustment ?

It looks like the right side shifter in your link. Perhaps Google Park Tools Rear derailleur adjustment and work through the YouTube video to see if it isn't either a cable or RD adjustment issue. The video is easy to follow and the only tool you need is a philips head screwdriver and maybe a pair of pliers.

It is, of course much easier if you have a bike work stand, which you probably don't, and although a bit awkward, not impossible without one (especially if you have someone who can help get the back wheel off the floor while you pedal and try to change gears).

The problem is that even though both are described as 8 speed, the detail reveals they refer to the left hand lever for the front derailleur.

It is looking like there is a worldwide shortage from Shimano
