Sydney weather this morning!!!

Despite the miserable weather I've got 9.4kwh for the day.

A far cry from when it was installed in summer when it managed 36kWh in a day. One moment it is clear then next minute absolutely belting down with rain as it is now.

I suppose I can be thankful the 9.4kwh seems to be about the lowest it goes on most days. At 11:30am it was briefly doing well then dropped away suddenly.

Only 5.5 kWh solar power but did get a dry ride in this morning.

Friday morning should be OK. Having Mothers day lunch on Saturday so riding is out anyway. Then Sunday looking OK.

I'm doing motorcycle marshal for a triathalon up at Nelson's Bay. Looks like I'll be wet getting there, wet working, and wet getting back.

At least I will be in decent wet gear and not doing all that exercise rubbish.

Rode into work this morning. So far a full week with no misses which is great.

Getting home this evening could be interesting.

And Saturday looks like a no-goer.

Sydney has recorded rain on nearly 50 per cent of days in 2024, allowing the year's total to already exceed 800mm – that's around two thirds of the annual average, and well above the average of about 600mm by the end of May.

While this year has certainly been wetter than normal, thankfully rain has been well below the intensity of 2022 when a mammoth 1,531mm had accumulated through the first five months of the year.

2022's eventual total reached 2,530mm at Observatory Hill, the highest annual total since records began in 1859.

I went for a ride this morning, and enjoyed it. I went on the M7 bike path, so no traffic to contend with, and the path was reasonably clean and very quiet. It rained a bit, but never torrential, and I have appropriate gear and setup, so was quite comfortable on the bike.

For me riding is never about speed, exercise, training, hitting targets, ticking off kilometres etc. It is a recreational activity and a way to relax and unwind, get outside and enjoy the air. So ticked those boxes.

In a strange way I actually enjoy riding in the rain, as long as it is not torrential. Takes me back to being a little kid, and the juvenile enjoyment of running in the rain and puddles.

Be careful on the underpasses, there is normally algae growing on the path in some of those places. And you’ll go down in an instant even going very slowly.

Dry on the coast. Could see rain on the radar but it was one of those screw the radar I’m going anyway rides. Got lucky. Cold wind though.

12°C average temperature today and a bit windy today but nothing gusty like yesterday.

I didn’t see many riders outside this morning, I suppose the 8°C minimum deterred a lot of people.
