Soreness - saddle angle wrong?
Postby hartleymartin » Thu Feb 03, 2011 10:28 pm
Should I use 3B cream before rides from now on? Should I be investing in a pair of knicks?

After using various brands of cycling knicks and having various painful bits ,I purchased some skins couldn't believe it no pain . My wallet was hurting though.hartleymartin wrote:I've got a sore area around my seat-bones which has also become red with mild rash/inflammation. Could this have been caused by having my saddle tilted too far forward? Also, I was wearing denim shorts and cotton underpants, and it was quite hot at 4:30pm this afternoon. Sweat/heat rash?

Went on 100+ didn't even think of shifting position or need too.

Major problems, not only were they “see through†but really uncomfortable, including suffering from similar symptoms you copped.
Solved the problem, cut the leg grippers off one pair and used them as underdaks for the other pair.
Super comfy even on a CF saddle with no padding.
The right solution?
Buy a good pair of knicks with worthwhile padding and lose the cotton undies.

Hey don't forget there are plenty of great quality MTB cycling shorts out there, you may not have to wear nix.
Having a sore butt to some degree, is a way of life, only true solution; don't ride.

I find that shy shorts (or mountain bike shorts) that I have tried don't provide anywhere near the protection of a good pair of knicks. I have bled in shy shorts on a 70km ride on a hot day. Never again.
Generally speaking, when you are actually out on the bike, no-one gives a damn about appearance. If I have felt a need to be a better covered than knicks provide (coffee shops etc) I will carry a regular pair of shorts to pull over the top.
On the commando front: I appreciate the reasoning of those in favour but it isn't for me. I have found a particular style of Bonds trunks in Coolmax that have an added panel so that there are no seams in the sitting spots. I have done 100km days in great comfort.

Even Brooks suggest flat, well it does in the instruction/information sheet that came with my Team Professional.

Would you go swimming in a safari suit? Nope you'd wear swimmers.. Just like you should wear bike pants on your bike.
I suggest you read the following.

I wear these and have done for some time and am fine with them. Nothing to do with appearence, I just used to ride MTB more and wearing normal lycra would mean an off would tear them apart. Not a good look on the hour long train ride back from the mountains. Don't see the point in buy more just for when I rode on road.dawndrifter wrote:Is there anything better then the Netti supershy shorts that I have purchased.
Not saying they're the best as I'm sure there's something else out there but for me they do the job with my only complaint being that the newer ones appear to be lower quality than the oldest pair.

Best pair of undies you will ever wear on your bike.

They were my first pair of bike shorts because I was ignorant then and they are common in most LBS.
They now reside at the bottom of a rubbish dump somewhere.
You can buy a much more superior pair of knicks for the same price online.

i must say it doesn't look the best, or as good as my nice white seat that came with my scott hybrid, although i have put it on my bike and ive got the white seat ready for when i lose some weight.
but suffice to say, i do not get a sore bum at all, i mean the most ive rode is only 30 kms. and after that point i did get a little pain, but that wasn't from the seat, it was from me riding.
its the best investment i have done and i love it. if i have a sore bum from the old seat, i can sit on the memory foam one and the soreness actually goes away straight away.
