lower mountains ridathon Monday Public Holiday
Postby leximack » Sat Sep 15, 2012 6:18 pm
Ride will be similiar to this http://connect.garmin.com/activity/137410608" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
except without the last part going to Prestons. Expect 2500+ of climbing in what will be about a 150-180km ride. Bring your climbing legs. You can bail out qt any point for the time consious (or soft ). Climbs will include (but not limited to), bowen mountain, bellbird lookout (think thats what its called, the one at Kurrajong heights), Hawkesbury Lookout, old bathurst road and Glenbrook causeway (both sides). Once back at Penrith you can decide which way you want to go home depending on where you live.
Whoever can ride up Old bathurst road (the last climb and after 2500m climbing) without stopping i will buy them a double cheeseburger and a soft serve cone*
Not a race, but just a good day out climbing every hill we can find. If its wet drizzling, raining etc i wont be there.
Note - i you have never climbed up at least one of these climbs and without stopping or dieing or losing your lunch this is probably not the ride for you.
*prize must be claimed on day of issue

Some highlights for me...
- Making it up each climb (eventually). I think we even did all the ones Don wanted to do?
- Seeing Don get dive bombed by a magpie when descending from Kurrajong at about 60kph, then getting hit on the back of the helmet by the same bird.
- Appreciating the views from the lookouts more when you've ridden up from the bottom.
- Facing Old Bathurst Rd with 100k+ in the legs.
- Saying yes to the Lapstone climb after Old Bathurst.
- Setting some personal-worsts on m7 strava segments in the limp home.
- Most climbing I've done in a ride.
- Longest ride I've done. First metric and imperial century.
- Best post ride shower ever.

No worries at all Tim. GoogleMaps screwed me on the century... 96.4kms door to doorTimW wrote:Finally got to put a name to the face on the M7 today bud(forgot your and your mates name ) nice going on the century.TimXplora wrote:Minister of Administration sprung another engagement on me Looks like I have to take plan BXplora wrote:Previous engagement appears to have cleared out... looking good to have a run
Made it up by riding my son and a friend's boy to the park, 45kgs on the back of the MTB in the trailer. Ironically I nearly blew the knee out on the final two climbs with the trailer, even with a 26/34 low gear
But despite running one of the trailer tyres flat, I got my ton
Just as importantly, was good to have a chat out on the road. I had you pegged for a completely different bloke too! (First time I've ever thought that recognisable kit is a good idea, we blew a few blokes into the weeds... you were a lot tougher to catch )
