Hi,
My dad has a Specialized Allez, roughly 2005 model. It currently has a FSA Gossamer cranks on it, 9 speed 6500 Ultegra.
He is wanting to put on a compact crankset, what cranksets will work?
Thanks
Michael

According to Bikepedia, it should have a standard 68mm British BB.

Therefore, most any modern (9 or 10 speed) crankset that doesn't use an oversize BB axel (ie stay away from BB30) should fit with a compatible BB. Most common suitable will be (virtually any) shimano, or SRAM GXP.
Cheapest new option is likely Shimano Tiagra 4650 ( not sure if BB comes in the box or you need to buy it separately)

Thanks for that.
I found this crankset, would this work?
http://www.this link is broken/Mode ... elID=90266" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
With this bottom bracket?
http://www.this link is broken/Mode ... delID=2962" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If that works would I need the 68x108 or the 68x118?

That crankset should work with that bottom bracket, assuming that the Specialized Allez does not already have a external bottom bracket.michaelten wrote:Thanks for that.

Obviously, you should be able to determine that from looking at the bicycle, it is not abundantly clear from the specs found by Ozdavo.
BUT - the best way to work out whether you need a 108mm spindle or a 118mm bottom-bracket spindle would be to pull what's there out and measure it.
It may be the sort of issue that your trusted bike shop can determine with a minimum of stress to you.
