Pin, I have a pair of old school Look pedals that you're welcome to have.
Spindles roll well, pedals will clean up very nicely (I just haven't bothered). These date to '89-ish.

What he said, I have several spare pairs of used but usable original look pedals that you could have. I'll look in the shed tomorrow.10speedsemiracer wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 7:29 pmPin, I have a pair of old school Look pedals that you're welcome to have.

the fork was swapped for some carbon fork and the bike was sold a long time a go, clearing out the old mans shed of bike bits.

Regular readers of this thread may recall my Kypo has a Reynolds 531 decal, but the build record said it was 525. Well the original owner contacted me recently and seems to think Rob ran out of 525 decals, so it got a 531 decal instead! He also mentioned he ran Shimano 600 on it. Eh, I'm sure it's happy with the 8 speed Campy rubbish I have on there at the moment.

It's great to learn that someone has the Kypo books, I have one of those 400 or so myself. I'll be back with the serial number. I bought it on ebay some years ago, it was (oddly) in the UK and I decided it deserved to come home. Mine is one of the 525 bikes, any truth to the story that he often sold them in a pair? race bike and training bike?. It's still a light frame, 531 wouldn't be more than a 100 grams lighter.

I'm sure there were plenty of customers that did just that, but I can't say I've seen any Kypo twins if you know what I mean.
525 has a 0.1mm larger tube wall thickness than 531c. If anyone could pick the difference between 531 and 525, I'd be very surprised. The quality of the frame building would have much more influence on how it rides, IMO.
Looking forward to seeing your Kypo!

Awesome! Another Kypo sees the light of day.
Am I reading the serial right? 1288K156
Although four years earlier than mine, it shares the under top tube cable guides and 'fastback' seat stay ends.
What are the dropouts/fork tips?
Cool paint! The decals look to have survived well, some of mine have faded.
So what are your plans for it?

Dropouts don't seem to be branded, yeah I was wondering when he made the change to the distinctive stays, I guess the answer is.. before 1988. And yep Serial is 12th month of 88, frame 156. Not sure what to do with it, it's a bit big for me, so far I've just been hanging onto it in case my son grows a bit taller than I did. He's only 7.. so I'll have to keep it another 10 years to find out I guess.
I bought it 3 or so years ago on ebay. It was in the UK, I knew about Kypo frames and thought it was a little strange one had made it to the UK. I kind of impulse bought it so it could come back to Australia.

So those who subscribe to this thread will remember Gordon1's track Kypo that came with a great story of it once making the podium in the Austral Wheelrace and being stolen from the original owner.
Well now Gordon1 is the proud owner of a road version of that frame, built by Kypo, but wearing Gibson decals. (Glen Gibson bought Kypo's equipment and is the caretaker of the Kypo build records.) Same original owner as his track frame, I believe.
So 498K458 would make it April '98, number 458 - five later than Gordon1's track frame and eighth newest Kypo. It will be interesting to find out why/when it got Gibson decals.
Great to see another Kypo come out the woodwork!

I s'pose the other question is, why is a golfing equipment Brand making flues ?

Thanks P!N20 for posting the photos.
Following on from the tale of my track bike/connection with a bike shop and the whole crazy story yesterday I received a text from my mate at the bike shop with some photos of the Kypo/Gibson. I noted it was very similar colour to the track bike and my mate asked do you wonder why it's a similar colour? Yes he was messing with me.
Ben's (who came second in the 2000 Austral) dad had approached my mate and my mates dad at the bike shop saying he has two bikes that need to go to a good home "do you know anyone?". My mate has looked after me well and where possible I try and return the favour. Swings and roundabouts as they say. Knowing I had the track bike he was never going to offer it to anyone else before checking with me first. I have joked that I need to change my will to now include him in it.
After a phone call or two and texts I realised the money wasn't really an issue it was more so a good home and any proceeds were going to a charity. I suggested a price that was accepted readily and when I was told it was cancer fundraising and the fact that my mate at the bike shop had lost his mother recently (and I think we all know someone close) I said let's put another $100 on top.
I am yet to collect (and it comes with chrome forks) but know that my mate and his dad will have it put aside.
This story just keeps on giving and to have matching track and road Kypo's is somewhat of a coup and to say I'm am pretty happy is an understatement.
It is most likely 9 speed era and has some campy parts on it but I do have a later record 10 speed titanium group looking for a bike to hang off. This might be a candidate but I will reserve judgement until I have the frame.
The good bike karma keeps flowing.
