First identified by the State Government as needing improvement in 1975 it looks like there might actually end up being a safe cycling route provided adjacent to the Causeway.
The estimated cost has fallen from $50M in 2015 to $30M now though so I do wonder what has changed in the last 4 years to make it 40% cheaper.

The 2015 proposal was tied up with the MAX Light Rail project - basically the current footway was needed to widen the roadway for the light rail vehicles, which then required a new bridge to be built for peds/cycles. I wonder if there were a whole lot of light rail works bundled up in that cost estimate.

Don't get your hopes up, it was also promised in 2013

I wonder where they will put the bridge on the north side, as there is now the complex "at the point" so less places to build the bridge and access ways, in particular, with so many restrictions for the waterway.
