I’m watching the version on 7 Plus with NZ guy instead of Phil. At least it’s uninterrupted.

But yeah not the best.
That's what I am watching!

A well deserved win by Carapaz and a disappointing showing by the Australians.

It was well deserved.
I was hoping van Aert was going to win after all the work he was forced to do at the end.
Carapaz had the legs to stay away.
Well done.

Well done by Carapaz, a good move at the right time.

Brutal course and race.

Great win by Carapaz.

This might be heretical here, but I am always disappointed when an individual road race ends in a sprint, and someone who has sat behind all day wins. So it was very satisfying to see someone win by going it alone for the last few kms.

And he doubled Ecuador's Olympic all-time gold medal count!

Great race, such a hard course especially in the conditions. They made Wout do all the work and it cost them all a shot at gold. Fun little sprint for silver.

I enjoyed that, coming home from work and being able to watch a big race live while having lunch! Excellent race, well won by Carapaz.
I don't think anyone ever deserves first place, but WVA definitely deserved second if he couldn't win.

Thrilled with the result, south America is booming with cycling talent and this helps. Also a smart race.

The team push on the flats didn’t really make a difference. Just the last hill plus the catcand mouse games too away genuine chances fot the gold.

Who is going to win todays women's race. Will van Vleuten's decision to concentrate on the olympics pay off or will van der Breggen & Vollering continue their form from the giro ?

Can anyone upset the netherlands?

Big 10 minute lead by the breakaways over the peleton with still 80-odd kms to go. Will be interesting to see if the favoured teams work together to bridge that

Womens road race looking a bit anticlimatic.. Maybe Van Vleuten will catch the leaders, but the slow going peleton gave the break a huge lead.

Anyway, not watching it 'cept on cyclingnews. Been shuffled off tv for... water polo :( and 7plus is too crappy/ads for me last time i tried.

Men's was a great one though. Tough race alright.

Commentary is driving me a bit nuts. I missed something what happened to Van Vluten, she was chasing I came back and gone?

Well there are still 4 dutch women in the peleton as far as I can see, so I guess she is still there. (10km from finish).

Anyway if the leader (Kiesenhofer) holds on and wins I will be happy (see my comments on the men's race).

p.s. 7plus is fine for me. Yes there are occasional ads, but no different from TV.

Wow, it seems from van Vleuten's celebrations she didn't realise that it had got away & they were racing for 2nd

It seems like the Dutch didn't genuinely know that Keisenhofer was out front! Van Vleuten celebrated as she crossed the line. Then she was told she was 2nd and her whole demeanour changed. Ouch.

They just said she was interviewed on Dutch TV and said "I thought I was in front..."

Funny they didnt kow the race situation. At one stage, the peleton had a clear view of the leader, who was on an adjoining road.

The winner's emotion was priceless though. Lying on the road, crying her eyes out and trying to catch her breath at the same time. Anna Kiesenhofer isn't even a pro rider i think.

When Van Vleuten left the pack earlier in the race the camera showed her talking to the moto cameraman about the gap to the breakaway, so hard to believe she didn't realise

It does seem a bit weird, maybe oxygen deficiency :-P

Great result again for the winner, took her chance and rode her cotton pickin non pro socks off. Awesome :)

Edit - Riders blaming lack of timing from admin

She clearly didn't count the number of riders in the breakaway. The winner has a PhD in Mathematics, not Van Vleuten.
