The 2021 Tokyo Olympic Thread

Postby AUbicycles » Wed Jul 21, 2021 5:01 am

The Tokyo olympics are on our doorstep and most od the riders across the different cycling events are now on location.

For the women’s Road Race, my guess is that we will see one of the dominent women… probably drawing out the bunch and wearing them out with pace.

For the men’s it is hard to judge and because it can be an all out it could be similar with Tempo to finish but a high pace pushing fatigue and exhaustion but still a healthy finish libe spint of the top 10 who draw the bunch out. Could be different but I feel these will maintain ha high pace and no time to relaxe,

Looking forward to the track, but gave to see where In can watch it. And BMX is enjoyable.
Cycling is in my BNA

The Track Team seem to be very strong in both sexes and the road up until a fortnight ago, I ranked the girls very highly but with the top contenders all having had some nasty falls, I don't know now. The blokes, well I don't think our depth is there for this one but that's not to say, that they won't be a push over, they will need some very big factors to line up. Can't comment on the BMX because I don't know enough about the riders. :(

I suppose as usual we won't see much cycling live because Seven will prefer to show gymnastics and hours and hours of swimming.

With the number of channels they have now hopefully they'll show it all. It's always been a pain to try and watch

Swimming is a traditional proper sport for Australia so naturally they will do a lot of coverage of it.

However the whole Olympics could be cancelled - they are considering it now.

CyclingTips has a good guide to the road courses.
Hope to catch the road event. The course goes halfway up Mt Fuji and lap around the Fuji International Speedway. I thought it would reach Hakone, guess not.

https://cyclingtips.com/2021/07/your-gu ... -olympics/

Still lots of uncertainty over the event going ahead. Real shame, but not surprised. The Aussie team has its own "bubble" in addition to that created by the event organisers.

It's probably the only event in the 20201 Olympics that I'm sorta interested in, but depends on if there is any reasonable programming guide that will allow me to record it. Meh

I predict that a Dutch woman will win the road race. (I'm a risk taker, I am.)

More like hours and hours of talking heads, puff pieces on the host country, replays of Aussie glory etc ad nauseum.

I just want them to show sport. They have half a dozen channels and you can barely find any sport even with 20 events happening at once.

I just don't understand why they do this, it is a sporting event, if I want to watch a talk show I'll watch a talk show.

I attended the Sydney Olympics as a (badminton) official. We stayed in one of the Uni accommodation colleges. In the main lounge room area they had a dozen or so big screens showing the live feed from each of the sports. Just the TV feed from the site, no commentary, no breaks, but with all the action replays etc.

It was like I had died and gone to heaven.

The cooking garbage is like 5 minutes out of several hours! My wife enjoys that part and it means we get to watch the TDF together. So it may not be for everyone, but I don't mind it. I also like the Mat/Robbie/Bridie commentary though and I know some don't like that. I really hated the British based commentary on the Giro and the F1!!

Im predicting GOLD in the Team Pursuit with Kell O'Brien, Sam Welsford, Luke Plapp, Alex Porter and Leigh Howard. Tim Decker is a genius and these boys are going to go close to 3:30
They have trained specifically for this event for 5 years and can match anything that Denmark or the Poms throw at them. Kell O'Brien is the best track rider in the world right now.
Lets hope Im right.

So is there any sort of reliable schedule or source for watching the road races this weekend? I've signed up to the seven website so I can stream (we don't have coax to the TV because we never watch FTA), but there's no indicator at all of what they'll show, or if they'll have separate streams per sport (which the could do easily if they wanted to...).

As others have mentioned, 7 Plus allows you to watch individual sports on demand - they is a category for each sport

7Plus have put the rowing on the road race channel because there's an Australian team in it. Come off it...

But I've been watching the Road Race on Plus since they started the roll out. :? You have to go down to the sports and keep scrolling across to the right, till you see cycling and then click on that.

Yeah, it's the only way to be sure to get anywhere near full coverage. Stream quality isn't awesome, but thats FTA for ya.

Maybe we have different versions of excellent :-p

(and what we're watching on)

Oddly, the 7+ app on aTV (just started watching on this and it's not really much different than mirrored from pooter to aTV) has different commentary to the website.

Edit - more ads on the aTV app and seem lower quality overall.

Edit 2 - Now the www version (which was NZ commentators) reflects the aTV app stream (commentators etc), they must have swapped it over during an ad break. It must change depending on which tab/icon you access it from, a different one back to NZ. *shrugs*

The commentary is so bad!
Struggling to watch, might have to mute the sound.

I’m watching the version on 7 Plus with NZ guy instead of Phil. At least it’s uninterrupted.

But yeah not the best.
