Hi All,
I looking for chain ring suggestions for converting my cannondale mtb converted to ebike - change from 3by9 to 1by9 - What chain ring size give me the most scope?

What cassette size do you have? What wheel diameter and tyre size? And do you want more top speed or low speed climbing ability.
I have several (non-e) bikes converted to 1x. Bought narrow wide rings in 30,32 and 36 I think. Put a 36t on 1x11 with 11-42 (11spd) cassette, 26” wheels. Put 32tooth on my son’s 26” with 11-34 9spd cassette, it was 30tooth until he got a bit stronger. Latest build is a 32 on 11-34 9spd 29”. All built for decent climbing, but maxxing out cadence descending hills. Normally in top gear at a comfortably fast pace on the flat.

The wheel size is 27" and the rear cassette is an 11-? 9spd cassette. Because it is an ebike and currently on 5th and 6th gears on the centre ring is usable - the rest spin out.
OI onya bike!!!

So you want a bigger chainring?
In the past I’ve made a spreadsheet to check gear ratios. Test ride the bike, see what gears I really use/need. Plug in some cog and chainring sizes and fiddle with the numbers to get a chainring size optimised to my preferences. It’s how I ended up with a 36tooth (26” wheels) when I went 1x11 from 3x9. (Wheel size affects the drive ratio -or gear inches)
There’s also online calculators available. Haven’t used this, but here’s one:
