A much needed rest day, both for me and the riders of the Giro, as whilst there were some processional days in week 2, there were also some crackers.

The last weeks is just NASTY HARD !! 885km with a total elevation gain of 18,961m (an average of 2.1% climb for the WHOLE of the last week ...) :o

Stage 16 :

Stage 17 :

Stage 18 : Any sprinters still left and alive .... ?

Stage 19:
Image

Stage 20 (The Queen stage and Cima Coppi) - been to the top of both of those climbs
Image

Top of the Passo Fedaia (we went up the easy side)
Image

At a stop in Arraba, we were on our last legs due to a detour due to roadworks, hence the 'sad' biscuits
Image

Made it to the top of Passo Pordoi (we climbed from Arraba. Canazei was where we were based for the week)

Stage 21 : Finish with a 17.4km ITT

I'd need an e-bike for that climb, but they're not riding the nasty side ?

Still tough

I rode the nasty side. Definitely tough either way, agreed

Far out. There are 3 paved, and three non-paved climbs of the mortirolo. You could probably Everest just doing all 6

Jai Hindlet is 3 seconds off GC leader Carapaz who won’t give up the maglia Rosa … but its still game on and an Aussie rider to keep cheering for

A couple of interesting days, ready for the last two mountain stages !!!!

Pity about Almeida - he was destined to maybe sneak into the top 3 at the final stage, but the dreaded covid got him

Carapaz & Hindley are soooo closely matched - it'll be a matter of who doesn't crack. Jai's riding a really smart race, but a late puncture in last night's stage almost brought him undone, save for it being 500m within the 3km Zone. PHEW !!!!

Landa could finally be on a good result too. The Shark is too far back realistically, but never say never !

Hope Hirt & Pozzo can stay in the top 10, as for Jai and Buchmann. Hugh also deserves a top 10 for his efforts !

Can't wait, a couple of early mornings coming !!!

WOW

Brilliant ride, luckily woke up from a35km nap to see it.

I’d love to see the power files from that group.

That was awesome !!

Many memories too from my ride in the area

Haven't been able to watch much.
Away in the taxi and it's been busy.
Have the highlights recorded at home. :)

Did Jai Hindley just win the Giro a la Cadel taking the yellow a stage out?! Epic ride!

The 'nap' was part of Pordoi descent to that nasty straight part at Fedaia.

I remember going down that descent being glad I wasn’t going the other way.
Have a great panoramic pic of those last curves.

Seems likely. Tonight's TT course is the same as 2019. On that occasion Hindley lost only six sec. to Carapaz, so 1'25" should be a comfortable buffer. :D
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Made me giggle that you specified your nap in kilometres rather than minutes. Maybe you have a future in the Indy Pacific Wheel Race ;)

I have to do it that way, as often don't note the time I fall asleep, but can usually remember the km count ...

Won't be staying up to watch the ITT, but will be curious to see what Landa can do ?

What a brilliant and well deserved win !!

Now just need an Aussie to win the Vuelta and we've got all three !

Nice to see Pozzo, Hirt remain in the top 10, as well as Hugh Carthy.

Piti that Valverde didn't. Not.

Now on to the Dauphine !!

Amazing effort.

Some interesting data from the day before here:

https://lanternerouge.com.au/2022/05/28 ... -from-90s/

6.51W/kg for 18:50 with a VAM of 1877 to drop Carapaz. That's amazing at any stage, let alone at the end of a tour.
