2022 TdF -

Some interesting notes from Inner Ring re changes for 2022 ....
The points competition is already something to look forward to as it promises to be more than “the sprinters’ jersey” as both Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel have said they want it. Now the sprinters will of course try but this year’s route sees stages with uphill finishes like Longwy and Lausanne offering full points, a place where these two can score and others cannot

The mountain summit time bonuses of 3-2-1 seconds are gone, they weren’t much use to start with and in a race with 53km of solo time trials, even less useful

The mountains competition in recent years has seen any hors catégorie climbs at the end of a stage be worth double points (last year on Ventoux, the Col du Portet and Luz Ardiden it was 40 points for first place, not 20) but this is binned for 2022, all HC climbs are treated equally and this helps the raiders on breakaways who can take points on the earlier HC climbs during a stage and if they’re caught by the GC contenders later on they still have a good chance at getting the jersey.
Hmmmmm

Looking forward to this after a really enjoyable Giro. Question is how much will I do live vs highlights (or how much do I value sleep).

Attending just a few stages. An interesting this is that the mens tour closes as le tour de france femmes starts in Paris. Will be the biggest event of the tear for the women, though I don’t think I can go.

It seems that several high profile riders will be out of TdF (pending impacts) due to Covid

Adam Yates - IG
Pidcock - IG
Sgana (again, 3rd time now) - TDE
Vlasov - BOH
Bjerg - UAE
Hirschi (?) - UAE
Bisseger (?) - EF
Bettiol (>?) - EF
Uran (?) - EF
Carthy (?) - EF
Ulissi - UAE

The (?) are ones that have been mentioned/withdrawn from races but not seemingly confirmed with Covid
who else ?

Several other teams had +ves within the team but did not confirm who

TJV TdF linelup : (From CN)

Primoz Roglic
Jonas Vingegaard
Wout van Aert
Tiesj Benoot
Christophe Laporte
Steven Kruijswijk
Sepp Kuss
Nathan van Hooydonck

Dennis , is not named, and no reason given as to why. Robert Gesink and Mike Teunissen are also notable absentees from the Jumbo-Visma line-up, having been part of the original long list of 11 riders.

Interesting ....

It's a pretty strong looking team with half the team capable of staying with a short list of the best climbers in the world on the toughest climbs and being GT contenders in their own right. Will be interesting to see what level of support they give to WVA for for green.

Cyclingtips have a page with team lists that is being continually updated.

https://cyclingtips.com/2022/06/the-22- ... tart-list/

I guess some teams will be waiting until after the relevant national championships are run (and won) this weekend before they announce their full teams.

And Covid might have a final say on some teams line-ups. It will still shape up as a great race.

Nice concise summary from Inner Ring

https://inrng.com/tour/

Interestingly, the 1st 7 stages are lumpy, so may be interesting to see what sprinters can be at the end.

Stage 8 is the 1st summit finish !

No Yates for BEX for TdF. Chasing stage wins with Matthew’s and Groenewegen.

Maybe changing focus for UCI points to avoid relegation …

Can I claim Covid for the reason I don't turn up to my early morning start at work for 3 weeks? You can never be too sure. just wondering.

Cavendish won his country's championship. That puts the pressure on his team! I'm actually on the side of wanting to see him there.

Froomedog is in the ISN team, not sure why given performance.

Mind you, he is LEAN, and I think that it can't be healthy to be that lean

Seems it will be a lottery who actually gets to race at TdF with past covid +ves being named in teams (Yates & Vlasov) and others getting dropped at the last minute (Trentin, Battistella & Declercq).
Jungels may still be in doubt

What a crazy time it is ....

Crazy times, but Declercq's absence might open up a position on DQS.

They have a good record with last-minute recalls to the team.

Cheers,

Cameron

Great to see Jacobsen get up after what he went through.
Caleb got totally sandwiched :( ... but thankfully stayed upright this time.
And Cort-Nelson's KOM salute ! :)

Yeah Caleb got shunted out which was a shame. Great back end speed by Jacobsen, perfect timing. Hopefully Caleb’s turn today.
