2023 <10,000km Club

Postby MichaelB » Mon Jan 02, 2023 2:19 pm

Well, took two days to get the ball rolling for 2023, as it was stinking hot yesterday.
Plan changed to doing a Century today with better weather and got to finish with 94.6km and 1,333m elevation gain.

Noticed a slight chain skip at the top of Norton Summit and noticed one of the chain links had partially failed (due to a bad shift - my fault), so luckily could pretty much coast home.

Happy to make it home OK, but a bit annoyed missing the century :|

Will post a pic of the chain later once laptop is up and going again

Here’s to lots of rubber side down and accident free riding !!

Cheers

I'm in again. :D
Aiming for 8400km (700/month).
87km to kick things off.
Back to work tomorrow and a cool change due tonight. Just finished 11 consecutive days riding. I need a rest.
Excellent weather for the entire holiday period. Mild to warm, a tad too hot at times but mostly light winds. Had an exceptionally good break from work.
I turn 60 this year so I'm no longer a mamil. I am now an Old.Fart.In. Lycra.
Let the fun begin. :D

Another OFIL here. Will aim for 5000 this year again. Hopefully will get closer than my 3200 in 2022 - however I missed 5 weeks with a broken rib and 3 weeks overseas, so if I stay fit I might be a chance

Unlikely to get many rides in over the next couple of weeks, also, my new bike will hopefully be ready at the end of Jan.

I'll go for 8,000KMs again this year. Back at work from 16 Jan which is when I will get riding again. Thinking of a trip in the middle of the year so that will reduce the total, should make 8,000 this year with being back at work and lockdowns not happening.

Happy New Year to the <10k gang, MAMILs, MAFILs, OFILs (prefer Old Fella to Old Fart...)....whatever !

I usually end up with a month off somewhere and an easier week once a month so 7,500kms seems like a good target for this Old Fella In Lycra these days, so I'll stick with that.

Cheers gang ! :D

I was a little too comfortably under 10k for 2022 - only managed a lousy 2,174km. I could aim to do better this year, but that's a bit easy, so aiming for 20km per day for a 7,300 km year.

On track in the first week

Having attempt #2 at the Jan Century tomorrow.

I’m going to have another go at trying to achieve the metric ton each month. Got 2/12 last year, so can’t do much worse …

I'm in again too for 5k. Pretty close last year, so hopefully close again this year. I think the 20/21 COVID years gave me an inflated sense of what my yearly distance can be...

1st target of the year achieved today - completed the century that I tried on the 2nd Jan.
no mishaps, but 2 close calls from drivers and saw 3 other stupid moves :?

103km and 1020m elevation gain in just over 4 hrs

Happy with that :) 270km so far this year and 2,600m elevation gain

Life really got in the way last year and the start of this year hasn't been any better. Hoping to ride more consistently and targeting 4,000km which is up on 2022 but down on 2021.

Thanks but it's come to a halt already. :( Slipped cleaning the pool last night and came down on the edge of it damaging my tailbone and doing some sort of injury to the left wrist. Nothing can be done for the tailbone and will know on Friday what the problem is with the wrist.

Arrgh, yes When ours broke, it didn't get replaced. I cut it up and disposed of it at the tip in the metals recycling yard.

I will never have another one either.
Our house in Mildura had one.
Yes good on a hot day.
Not good enough to make up for the pool chemicals, maintenance, power and water.

Had a CT scan yesterday on the wrist, because there could be a smaller broken/cracked bone towards the middle and they said that if there is, it will cause complications further down the track. Nothing can be done about the tailbone, it is pushed sideways and time will fix that at some point.

Dr said keep taking the painkillers and the wrist brace on for the time being.

Painkillers aren't doing anything for these two spots :( but it does control the lower back pain levels, so I'll save them for when those levels reach the point of not being bearable.
