::sheepishly waves hello:: I fell off the proverbial horse big time, you guys. I haven't ridden to work or anywhere else in months, and a couple of you've apparently noticed I haven't been around much which was pretty nice. I've missed you all too :)

It went to custard last year when my dad had a stroke, and a complicated & difficult recovery. At the very moment I felt able to ease back in - main roads WA rudely dug up half my route and put in a detour that, combined with the total loss of bike fitness, made it literally a bridge too far. (See WA forum).

Thanks V17L for the nudge - bike's coming out of the shed real soon.

Form is really important when doing dead lifts, bad form could result in back injuries amongst other things.

Weight wise you will find that you will steadily increase the weight you are lifting, so consider that when purchasing. I use to dead lift 100kg - 140kg but nowadays I just do Pilates, one day I'll get back to dead lifts

Forgive me cyclists for I have sinned. It has been 10 days since my last commute. My legs have been in pain for a while, likely suspect was drugs, so stopped that and it seems to be improving. Followed up with catching some plague that has been doing the rounds of my son's school like typhoid Mary.

No grief from SWMBO however - last year when I soldiered on though manflu, it turned out to be pneumonia. Looks like I will be able to commute again on Tuesday, but might go for a short ride on Sunday to confirm I am recovered

Haven’t commuted first for months. Haven’t had full time work and casual work has been not suited to commuting. During the time off I have escorted the kids to school by bike a few times, maybe that counts. Next school term I start a new job that should suit some cycle commuting.

That's a bugger bychosis - its tough to be looking for work, especially with kids. Glad to here there is something new coming up.

Thanks for the support. I have been very fortunate to have made the decision myself to quit work and have been able to survive comfortably without consistent work. It has been a good mental health break, but I have missed cycle commuting and haven’t ridden as much recently but have been doing physical work rather than sitting at a desk.

Key broke off in the garage door lock so I couldn’t get my bike out. First sunny day in a while, too.

My wife's last day of work after being offered a redundancy. Caught the bus with her, and a crowd of us are going to lunch, the pub, wherever later.

It might lead to me having an excuse for tomorrow too, if it gets too rowdy!

Wife's got a new job and her work roster is all over the place. So I'm having to pick kids up after school to avoid paying for after school care, and don't have time to ride from work to get them so I'm driving instead :(

And now I'm fighting off the sickness my son and wife have had, and is *this* close to sinking its claws into me as well..

Long service leave.
Back to work next week after 3 months off.
At least there will be a bike ride there.

I hurt my knee doing squats last night.
Really wanted to ride to work today, but don't want to make knee worse.

Last week the excuse was simply smoke. Not too bad in the mornings, but by early afternoon was thick with air quality readings in the ‘very unhealthy’ range.

Still not dead! Recent highlights: Dodged a redundancy and now kinda wish I hadn't, job is generally better than no-job but the hours have been stupid. There are still two major detours on a route that was already maxing me out at the best of times. Close relative experienced an episode of psychosis and ... its actually beyond me to describe, but nobody got hurt and we found a new normal, but whenever I wasn't getting bent over at work, I was taking extra care of people and things.

I need to get riding again, but I need easy.

I've ... um

oh god, I've

...

put a deposit down on

...

an ebike

I've loaded an app on my phone called Airlief seems pretty good at letting you know what the local air quality is

After 4 days back, last Thursday I’d had enough and went back down the beach, so no commuting. Early morning rides tho, so that’s good
