Yes. The wear and tear on your bike. It only takes a few lengthy rides in the wet and you are almost guaranteed to need new headset, bottom bracket or wheel bearings. Any or all of them. You are doing many many months of wear in just a few rides.
Brake pads, rotors, rims (if on rim brakes) and chains cop a beating too.
After a wet week or two in Sydney I rode this morning and was presented with a lovely “cheep cheep” sound from my bottom bracket.

And the higher chance of crashing - the more time in the rain the more time in less visibilty and vision, the more time in slippery conditions, the more chance for a pothole hidden under running water.
But for me boredom is a lot of it. 15 minutes of cold and wet and misery is way better than 70 minutes of same. Plus a 70 min ride in good weather has more to see and I can think about things other than "faaaark it's cold. faaaark it's wet Faaaaaaaaark that bloody twincab thing!"
although I suppose the twincab thing is just as likely to happen in the 15 minute run these days.

That'll learn me - was trying to spot the flags so I could swim between them on the way home - wasn't cold though - temp remained well over 25 so it was like swimming in the Pilbara.zebee wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 5:37 pmCold and boredom.find_bruce wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 9:13 pmOnce you're wet, you're wet - is there some subtle difference I'm missing between a 15 minute soak & a 70 minute one?

On the plus side I don't have to wash the sweat out of my helmet

True, but the first heavy rain you ride in will wash the sweat from your helmet into your eyes, which is not funfind_bruce wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 6:28 pm

That's where you have those little cycling caps. They are not often seen these days but are good in rainy conditions.Retrobyte wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 10:31 amTrue, but the first heavy rain you ride in will wash the sweat from your helmet into your eyes, which is not funfind_bruce wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 6:28 pm

I figured you'd like the morning weather. It was stinking humid and warm but did cool down later. I left late (slept in and tired).recumbenteer wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 12:17 pmLovely Rotovelo weather this morning... 98% humidity... #marvellous

Garmin reckons maximum 36°C but it didn’t feel too hot. It got windy however, crosswinds galore.

Had some 10 or so kangaroos I had to get past through there, they really slow you down.
