Hi All,
Can anyone point me in the direction of a group that helps maintain the Yarra flats?
The current condition of those trail is appalling. I’d be very keen to help maintain them. I spent 4 years building with World Trail so know a thing or 2 about making sustainable trails.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers,
ESC

Try chucking a message through to user gecouyant, I know he's been involved in that area. Hasn't been seen on here for about a year, so a response may not be forthcoming, but you don't know if you don't try.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Good on you for reaching out ESC.
YTT (https://www.facebook.com/groups/144564856198862/) work with Parks Vic and the community to manage only the Candlebark Park trail network. Everything downstream of Fitzsimons lane though kind of operates in the shadows. Certainly nothing official with Parks Vic.
When we last asked for contacts for that area there were several individuals claiming "ownership" but the most solid looked like https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100013632759644 so give him a go. https://www.facebook.com/john.desmarchelier also seems to be the MTB representative to the public with several newspaper articles (https://www.theage.com.au/national/vict ... 50vt3.html).
Just be cautious because trail activity tends to attract attention with a community that is fairly keen to protect inner-city native bushland. After years of ceaseless guerrilla trail activities, the Yarra City Council recently took the move to ask the public to report anyone hacking the bush so do be mindful ESC.
For what it's worth, if a mature and solid proposal to manage and repair the above was put to Parks, it would be well received. Only then can we put the horse back in front of the cart so to speak and manage the trail condition rather than reacting to it. A big benefit will be the improved mental and physical health of all trail users by eliminating confrontation on trail that currently has a number of competing interests.
Anyway, hope this helps ESC. Good luck and good on you for wanting to help.
Cheers
George
