1-20. Ok to ride in the weekdays?

What is it like to ride 1-20 in the weekdays? Have been retrenched (CEO decides to improve his bonus by moving all the work to India) so will have some more time to ride now. I usually do the weekend ones but the week days are now available .

Are there a lot of local traffic up/down the 1-20? Is there a good time slot to ride 1-20 on a weekday?

I haven't ridden it for a while, but in my experience it's usually busier on the weekends. Having said that, there's probably a higher chance of roadworks through the week. Like most rides; earlier the better.

better than the weekends in my opinion a lot less day visitor traffic makes the difference though you still get tradespeople with a job to get to and time is money and many of the catering delivery truck drivers need an education program

Yes - agree. It's better than the weekends. And also it's school holidays so less reasons for parents to be out and about unneccessarily.

Went up today about 10.30am - more cars going down. So by the time i headed down it was sweet after about 15mins in Sassafras - only 3 cars went by - another stayed behind 100m for quite awhile till i was closed to The Basin's roundabout.

In my previous rides - It's even quieter when all the shops are closed - say Christmas or New Year Eve/Day.

Just to prove it doesn't matter when you go, there's an idiot not far away - at 10:20 this morning a Nissan Patrol SYE559 decided he'd lean on his horn from about 50m behind me until he passed. Suprisingly, he actually gave me ample room (I was expecting a close pass).

Before that, it was sensational - cool and quiet except for the birds.

I do 2-3 midweek 1/20s for every one weekend ride. The Nongs are generally much nicer midweek.

If you can then do it midweek. Monday is probably best. IMHO.

Slightly off topic: how are the Dandenongs these days for cyclist-friendliness? I was considering riding up there this long weekend, as I now live only 11km from The Basin, but it's been several years since I last rode up there. Do some of the locals still make cyclists feel unwelcome?

I live at the base of 1/20 and ride up there all the time. I never have any issues with locals etc.

I tend to go early in the morning, lunchtime or near dinner time and the traffic is pretty ok. The worst time is mid morning Saturday and Sunday.

Weekdays are the best days to ride it. Fewer cyclists, less traffic.
