Looks like he's starting to fade and now about 14sec off the pace with 51 minutes covered.

Can easily go flat strap at the end, but damn it looks hard !!

He didn't manage to break it but he was never looking comfortable and gearing was to big for what he was capable of. Just the same, he earnt respect for having a crack at it.

This. As far as I can tell from the UCI Hour Record standings, he's sitting second* - not bad!

I could probably do a lap at that pace...

* Dan Bigham went 54.723km, but wasn't recognised by the UCI. Wrong sock height or something

Having a crack at the arbitrary UCI rules is fair enough & gee they've made some shockers. In Bigham's case though I think it was fair enough- he wasn't part of the drug testing program, because he wasn't on the world tour & couldn't afford it

The hour is such a brutal event physically & mentally so 54.555 km is a huge effort - 5th fastest of all time, behind
  • 56.375 km Chris Boardman on a superman bike
  • 55.291 km Tony Rominger on a triathlon bike
  • 55.089 km Victor Campenaerts
  • 54.723 km Dan Bigham
Anything you can do, I can do slower

Being on the UCI drug testing regime is a pure w.ank. The amount of money someone is expected to pay is stupidly high.

An interesting timeline of Dowsetts attempt.

Going really well to 40-ish min mark and then hit the wall a bit. Still improved on his last effrt.

Pretty damn amazing !!

Yep, it's another level of being in the hurt locker and one that finds you out, very quickly if you're under done in any way. He still deserves a high level of respect for his effort. I'd like to see Lambie have a crack at it, he is at the perfect age and knows the level of commitment required for these things.

Not wrong foo - Lambie knows how to bury himself - he was shattered at the end of 4 minutes (AT) 60 km/h.

Yep, I hope he does consider it, as it won't take much of a change in his approach to his training, to do it.

Ganna has a lot of support as an "Endurance" rider but even with all of his "Tour" training and support, he only rode off for 3rd at the Olympics. :? The question I pose is..................Does he have the mindset for unsupported individual level of suffering for "individual" mile stones, without a "Team" behind him? :? Can of worms opened, maybe.

It was faster than his own previous record so is a step up…

For the UCI rules I heard some ‘sensationalised’ comments that considering the prep and cost, Bigham should have been easily able to enroll in the doping controls…. But there was no acknowledgement that the athlete relies on a lot of sponsorship. Sponsors will help with gear and association to the athlete… much of it is in-kind. But which sponsor would be happy to solely fork out cash just for doping compliance… and I understand the ethical conundrum… empty money from the perspective of the athlete… a clear disadvantage for non team riders that other pros don’t have.

Ganna is pitched to be natural contender where it is suggested he could set an untouchable record.
