Bad Ol Puddy Tatt Stalks Indie Hawk

Postby stackyard59 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 5:06 pm

Old Jessie the cat got locked in one of the bike sheds the other day,She's 18 human years and cranky (thats 126 in cat ) so when rescued and taken care of i thought i might have a dig in there. (This place isnt called stackyard for nothin ! ) The Indie Hawk has seen better days but is still ridable.Top of seat downtube sticker says;Champion 4130 chromemoly tubing.Kuwahara Lightweight.Bottom of seat downtube says ;Kuwahara Osaka Japan. Service sticker says; Sold by "The Park Bike Shop" 217 Albany Hwy, Vic Park. Anybody have any knowledge of this shop and bike at all? In the shed further i have spotted what looks like a trackbike with an alloy bacon slicer type rear hub, next to that a red Road 3 speed Benelux Super Elliot .When extracted i will post them up as well.

So by the way you've described it the finds in this shed are a surprise to you.
Is this your shed and your an amnesiac or has the cat wandered into a strangers shed?

can't wait to see the track bike.

Are the brake calipers and levers Shimano 600 / Arabesque also, or Tourney? I've a couple of era's of Malvern Star XL600's which may have similar frames. Here's one.....

Yep,i sure do have some memory probs,no contest there !!!Just wait till ya get old, but i have 4 different locations with sheds with bikes, 2 here in A.C.T, 1 in N.S.W and 1 in Victoria.Ive been putting bikes/motorcycles in and out of them for over 30 years.I dont think this track bike will match your find of late though. All fittings on the hawk are Shimano 600.

My wife gives me heaps about my garage (ok, garages....).
I have got to show her these pictures so she knows how restrained I am!

What a great collection! Absolutely fantastic. I'd love to see those old motorcycles of yours too... I have a 1973 CZ (It's a love hate relationship). I've been riding bicycles for a while but just got into the vintage and restoration side and these pictures are giving me butterflys, hehe.

Very nice indeed.

James.

Thanks guys, this is why i forget whats collected at times. The central west N.S.W collection is all spread between 3 large sheds and i only have posted pictures of the "Armstrong and Flying Pidgeon". I have no photos of the Delahey collection as yet.

I remember that shop I lived around the corner from it in the late 80s and, from memory it was still there until the early 90s. Real old fashioned LBS pretty small with all sorts of interesting stuff stashed in there. Pity there are so few of those places left.

As for the shed - what can I say apart from that I am jelous and impressed :D

Can you tell me what the reb bike with the white headtube and metal headbadge (bottom right of picture) is? Looks strangely familiar.

How much do you charge for entry to your museum?
Probably have to do a bit of work on getting the labels made up properly for each exibit - though would be a fun excursion for the entire family :)
Cycling is in my BNA

in the words of Homer J. Simpson: Sweet Merciful Crap! I think I have a sibling of this bike in my own shed!

Victoria Park is in WA (Just over the river and SE of the Perth CBD, as you may or may not know) and I recently was "bequeathed" a one owner example very much like your own - only several sizes smaller... Will post pics that I have ready. Can supply more details in more decent light & with time permitting.

All period Shimmy 600 Gruppo - bar the Kuwahara headset & stem. From memory, the date codes from the Shimmy parts suggested '80/'81.

I did give the original owner a bottle of wine for it - just wish he wasn't the best part of a foot shorter than me! :D

Despite being a WA boy, I have only been in Perth just under 10 years. The only two bike shops that still exist on Albany H'way in Vic Park are Balmoral Cycles and Highway Cycles. Whether either of them have any lineage back to "the Park bike shop" I can't say. Some older, longer resident Perthlings on here may comment.

ps. I am quite proud of it's "alloy" dork disk (spoke protector). It's the only non-plastic or crappy steel one I have seen in my limited travels.

No, that's blasphemy. If you had any personal standards or the slightest amount of respect for the forum, you wouldn't have typed it and if the forum owner or his moderators were in the slightest bit interested in maintaining a medium that is suitable for all ages, they'd have deleted it by now along with your account.
I thought it was only blasphemy if he was tapdancing?

Thanks HH, at least it gives me a bit of history now of the bikes origins. Wine for bikes has worked well for me over the years. The red white head tube bike is an apollo II in great condition, In that shed there is also; Apollo I, ApolloI Galaxie, another Apollo II, and a ApolloIII, also gc . I'll post up some pics of them soon. No tours available , but a display held in September.
