Not a Kypo, most likely a Hillman based on the fork crown H engravings and four digit serial number.

Possibly repaired and painted by Rob.

Also, ch-ching!

Pretty ordinary photos and not much detail, but this would be worth a punt, if just for the parts https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/116062841614

That link is to the ‘not’ Kypo again.

First thing that popped up on ebay was this vintage mtb - softride beam & stem + spinergy 8 spoke wheels. Definitely looking for a niche buyer with an asking price of $2,000

Good luck getting those prices. Meanwhile I barely get any interest in a Bundy-built track bike complete for $300.

There is a decent Kenevans Track on FB for $300 too. I would have grabbed it but it's a 5 hr round trip.

Don't think it's a Calango , but the crimped tubes hint at something interesting: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/northbr ... 1322433455

Some half decent pictures would help immensely.

Now this is one odd advert.
These tub carriers are only useful in pairs. All the bumpf and pictures in the advert details infers that they are used in pairs.
BUT only one item in the photo and the singular is used in the description.

So... collectable pair of items or useless piece of bent metal?

PS Most people made their own from bent bits of steel or alloy back in the day anyway...

It's interesting that 1 cyclo carrier. Certainly as a pair they are a nice piece to have but 1 is a bit useless. This one also looks to be modified. I have 2 sets and all 4 are open ended where this one looks to be filled at one end for perhaps more security on the axle of the wheel in use.

For those unsure of what they are used for here are some in action on a Hetchins that came to me without wheels, bar and stem. I haven't attached but often the rider would put a toe strap around the spare rim and loop it on the bar drops for security. You didn't want your timber rims exiting stage left on a downhill which also explains the modification to the listed item

Firstly...Nice Hetchins...
Good spot with the modification. They actually made several versions of this bit of kit over the years and I have a pair that are drilled for the axle, not slotted as was usual. Maybe a late version? I also have an alloy pair which seem to be a bit of an oddball cos I can't find any references to them anywhere.

"often the rider would put a toe strap around the spare rim and loop it on the bar drops for security. You didn't want your timber rims exiting stage left on a downhill"

This amused me no end as some of the older blokes used to tell stories in the pub of 'So and So' losing his wheels on the way to a time trial and so the toe strap trick was ubiquitous in my part of South London when I was a lad.

I only just acquired the Hetchins and it is too big for me but it's such a lovely bike (and goes with 2 other road versions).

Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, the use of these carriers was before my time but I have read and heard the odd story. Hopefully you have only heard (at the pub) about the wheels disappearing and not experienced it first hand. While the system clearly worked it obviously had some failures!
