Busy intersection too.
I prefer to be careful in those situations.

Wow that was close - not too good doing a U-turn like that with people coming towards you at high speed.
But someone will doubtless come forward and accuse you of going too fast.

Why do they keep doing u-turns on blind corners in front of you?

Well, because they can. They assume it is quick, no risk and a small inconvenience to anybody coming around the bend
This sort of thing by cyclists can be seen frequently along the Great Ocean Road; they want to repeat for whatever reason e.g. Cape Paton. A lot of the time for the excitement!
And they are, by the actions shown here, as casually apathetic about motorists as motorists are about cyclists.

Can a 46 year old office worker hubbard on a 20 year old $300 bike keep up with a World Tour Pro giving it a bit of gas up Norton Summit?

No intentions of linking anything to him, except showing the stupidity of the lemmings.

I know some of the guys on that leaderboard IRL. No hubris, they are just fast. I know that climb as well, done it myself (from the other side) very high and very steep near the top.

KOM on Norton summit is currently 511W for 11 minutes set during the TDU. Second is Simon Yates.
Knowing the unnamed idiot he's probably planning on doing a slow training ride with a pro and maximising his Youtube clicks with such a clickbaity title.
He doesn't look particularly fast. I'd knock off a few of his KOMs just to annoy him if they were a bit more convenient.

A few years ago I saw a pretty bad crash caused by doing that sort of turn across double lines on a downhill section.mikesbytes wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 7:26 pmWhy do they keep doing u-turns on blind corners in front of you?
In defence of the perpetrator, he was doing it further up the mountain (near the first TV station) where the road is not as curvy and the line of sight is better.
The end result was 2 injured bicycle riders (fortunately not life threatening, but one did need ambulance IIRC)
And 2 damaged bicycles, well actually the frame of one of them was in 2 pieces so very kaput.

I've tried to find any notable races that he may of won or placed in but be buggered if I can find any records. I even asked one day and didn't receive an answer, funny that.

Doing 10km/hr on a BMX with no helmet and a left arm in a cast for a fifth metacarpal fracture (which you get normally by punching something). In the far right of three lanes in a fast moving 80 zone.
I’ve never seen someone who’s made such a catastrophic series of decisions before!

Maybe consider that people on low incomes may not have the means or wherewithal to use anything else to get around. I see plenty of the same example, but I do not pass judgement when circumstances could be on a very different wavelength to other people. Just a thought.

Covered in tattoos, early 20's, clearly just making another in a series of disastrous life decisions that led him to this moment. He was actually invulnerable as a result - no-one would dare take on anyone with that little to lose.

I never pass judgement on people riding old junk bikes because I like restoring old steelies, so sometimes I'm that guy. But riding a BMX, and doing it as dangerously as possible in traffic, it does set off a number of red flags.CmdrBiggles wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 12:01 pm[Maybe consider that people on low incomes may not have the means or wherewithal to use anything else to get around. A low income can't really explain everything there. 26 inch MTB shaped objects can be had for free around here absolutely every hard rubbish day. There's hardly a week goes by when I don't see at least a couple sitting out for the taking while I'm out riding. Some in almost ready to go working order, some that would need very little work to get them up and running. Most 18 speed and far more suitable for transport riding than a bmx.
