Press Release: Cerv?lo TestTeam’s Thor Hushovd won the opening 3.6 km stage 1 time trial of the Volta a Catalunya around the tourist town of Lloret de Mar, Spain, today. It is the second year in a row he has won the stage.
Thor now in the leader’s white jersey was joined in the top ten by team mate Brett Lancaster who finished tenth in today’s stage. Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d’Epargne) finished second and Greg Henderson (Team Columbia – Highroad) placed third.
"This is actually a surprise for me," said Thor Hushovd. "After the Classics period I had a rest and tried to build up my form again, but I’m really happy with this win."
"We came here today to do the best with Hushovd, Roulston and Lancester," said Sports Director Alex Sans Vega. "He did not have the fastest time in the split time, but after that he was on the flat part and he pushed the big gears to go fast."
