Robbie not in the Giro d’Italia

It has been decided that Robbie will not ride the upcoming Giro d’Italia.

The team has decided that with the course being so difficult and presenting few chances for the sprinters and the fact that Robbie is still not at 100% after his crash in the Scheldeprijs, that he will skip the Italian race in favour of a build up in other races towards his major season goal – the Tour de France.

The revised racing program will probably include Tour de Picardie, Tour of Belgium and Tour de Suisse before the Tour de France.

"I’m disappointed to be missing the Giro but I will take the opportunity to ride more with Gert Steegmans and Kenny Dehaes and later this month and work on our sprint leadouts. I tried very hard to stay in shape and get to the Giro in form but my crash in the Scheldeprijs made it very difficult. My form in Romandie wasn’t encouraging, so maybe this is the best solution."

Robbie will now take the time to recover completely and train to be in top condition for July.
