Team Diary: Milram on Stage 11 the Giro

Robert F?rster and Team Milram had another top result on the eleventh stage of the Giro d’Italia. After 214 kilomers from Turin to Arenzano, the Milram rider sprinted to a tenth-place finish.

Ronny Scholz had to drop out of the Giro because of continuing back pains. The Milram rider complained about severe pains in his back over the last few stages and recieved treatment for it. But on Tuesday the 31-year-old couldn’t take it any more and had to leave the Giro d’Italia.

Danilo Di Luca (LPR), continues in the pink jersey of the leaader, ahead of Rabobank’s Denis Menchov and Michael Rogers (Columbia).

"Our whole team tried from the very start to get away from the peloton in an escape group," said Milram sprinter Robert F?rster after the stage. "The first 200 km were full gas for us and we worked hard. When it became clear that a group wouldn’t come clear, Astana set an extreme tempo. That caused the peloton to fall apart on the climb to the Passo del Turchino. Then came a hectic finale."

Up until the Turchino Pass, there were many escapes. At first, Russian Vladimir Isaichev (Xacobeo) was a soloist, but he was chased down by Lampre’s Marco Marzano with 30 km to go. The last escapees were caught on the climb of the Turchino, and the peloton headed toward the mass sprint together.
