H?usler wins Giro Donne

Claudia H?usler won the 2009 edition of the Giro Donne, the women’s equivalent of the Giro d’Italia. In the final stage, Kirsten Wild took the sprint finish for her second stage victory in the race.

"It was a very technical and dangerous course today," said Sports Director Manel Lacambra. "We tried to control the race and take care of Claudia. There was a break of 19 riders, but we were not thinking about winning the stage, only bringing the maglia rosa home safely. Bigla chased the gap to bring the breakaway back, and about 2 km from the finish, Kirsten took the chance and won the stage. These were perfect days in Italy; we won the Giro, we had several stage victories, and we also won the maglia ciclamino and the team classification."

"It was a victory for the entire team," said Claudia H?usler. "We all worked very hard for the victory and we are all very happy that we won the Giro. After the third place last year, it was amazing to be on the top of the podium – it was an unbelievable feeling. The best part was that had so much fun as a team the entire 10 days. That was surely a contributor to our victory."
