Cycling Australia have announced the Mens Elite and U23 team nominations for the UCI World Road Championships in Melbourne in October. Fifteen riders for the Mens Elite are nominated and will fight for the (expected) nine available positions in the Australian team.
A pleasant surprise is that one of the newest Australian riders, Heinrich Haussler who gave up his German citizenship this year, is nominated. Due to injury he missed the Tour de France so the UCI World Championships would be his race highlight in 2010 – provided hhe can continue his recovery as planned.
Reigning World Chap, Cadel Evans is also in the line up though many feel that the course will be better suited to other riders. Evans, Giro d’Italia star Richie Porte and Michael Rogers are nominated for the two Time Trial event positions.
