Perth hosts a qualifying event in the new UCI World Cycling Tour (UWCT) event for amateur cyclists. In a three day festival starting on April 14 at Rottnest island, the rides include a 20km Time Trial and a 110km road race in Perth City on Saturday 16.
Bicycling Western Australia is hosting this event in which Perth becomes one of seven qualifying races being held worldwide. There are a series of amateur classes for riders aged 30 and older. The top 10% in each class are able to then participate in the final, in 2011 this is in Belgium.
The UCI World Cycling Tour effectively replaces the UCI Masters Road World Championships event – the top placed riders in Perth have a chance to compete for the Rainbow jersey.
